GRASSROOTS

"Something grassroots is at the most basic level of something, down there in the dirt with the roots of an idea or activity. If you’re looking to make change from the ground up, start at the grassroots" www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/grassroots

A grassroots activist is someone like you and me. It starts with an individual who is SO passionate about an issue, place or actually, anything, that is willing to take action in someway or another in order to create change and make a difference.

A grassroots movement happens when a group of people, of grassroots activists, encounters a certain problem or a chain of problems that are relevant to them and their community and unite their voices and power and use collective action from the local level to effect change at the local, regional, national, or international level to create change.

These movements start from the ground up, FROM THE PEOPLE TO THE PEOPLE, from the community. Grassroots activism relies on the basic rights to freedom of speech and expression by individuals when it comes to trying to make a change to a particular issue. The grassroots movement is the realization of the power of the individual, and what happens when they use their voice for a bigger purpose, as well as realizing that none of it can work without community and it sticking together.

Education is the backbone of any grassroots campaign, as people cannot participate in something they don’t understand. Grassroots activism believes that knowledge and consciousness are the roots for change and action. Its through awareness that we can truly create change.
If you think about it, the grassroots movement, mobilization and activism has been creating change all along our history… From women rights and votes, the anti-racism movement and even the independence of countries from colonial conquerers! Grassroots activism is notoriously effective.
Probably you don’t know, but you are a grassroot activist. If you are doing stuff to help activists you are an activist yourself. And that’s so beautiful! Usually we see ourselves disconnected from issues and things that are happening around us cause we feel that we can’t do much to make a change. But we do. Every time you talk and preach about an issue you care about you are being an activist in someway. And yes, we can do better, we can talk more and act more, but EVERY little step, word, action or even a repost you make, helps. As well as every unconscious act and word does not. So let us please be aware of our actions and words. Cause they do ripple and multiply constantly. Let us not forget how powerful we are. And creating change is possible cause WE ARE THE CHANGE.
